LUIS FEO - DIBUJOS RECIENTES
Press release
Luis Feo, Toledo, 1975, studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid. He exhibits regularly in European galleries and his works are regularly shown at prestigious national and international art fairs.
Beyond the technical perfection, the absolute fidelity of the drawings of Luis Feo with the drawn, beyond being able to recreate impeccably things as difficult as glass, snow, or the fur of a wild animal. Beyond all that, what interests me and impresses me most about Luis’s work is his ability to convey the sensations, the luminosity, the brightness and reflections, the atmosphere and the context. Nobility or fury in the eyes of a wolf or a zebra, the static coldness of inanimate objects. Feo Luis transmits to us, as the best hyperrealistic authors do, the essence of things and living beings and the moment, the temporal moment in which the capture of the drawn has taken place.
There are no blacks darker than the black colors of this artist’s works. Not even greys grayer. His mastery of graphite and acrylic is prodigious, but he is a perfectionist and only the works he considers absolutely perfect see the light. Sometimes I am not able to understand why it destroys a nearly finished drawing, but he has it very clear and you see a lot of security in his gesture that you do not think to question it. If this one is not good enough, there’s no going around it.
In this exhibition we will see 12 works of medium and medium-large size of newly created. This is a demonstration that puts in value the everyday objects, drawn and surrounded by austere backgrounds that self-empower them and become precious jewels worthy of being valued and admired.
The glass and the glasses, the bottles. The sublimely reproduced liquid they contain and we guess by the container. The metal, silver or steel of domestic utensils, cold, hard and close at the same time transmit to us in this sample a kind of strange sophistication, of silence, of the calm of the inert, of the static, of inertia. De calma repito.
On the contrary, when these objects show an emblem or mark of something popular they lose that coldness and we feel like travelling companions of those pieces that have been and will be forever present in our lives.
We also see their popular "Clicks" dressed as warriors of the universe, as guardians of precious goods. Prized precisely for their obsolescence and the risk of extinction to which they are victims.
And we will see a wall phone, from the time when it was only made to serve this means for "the important". This familiar and endearing appliance for those of us who are of a certain age acquires the importance it had in our days for our lives and is shown to us in all its beauty and functionality.
I want to finish this presentation, asking the visitor not to look for the defect, or the right one. Let you be carried away by what each work transmits to you, intimately, as if contemplating something close, intimate, a friendly object, with a relaxed look and attentive senses.
