CV - Biography:
Gerard Mas’ work is characterized by formal precision and perfection in the execution of pieces made with classic materials such as lightly painted alabaster and marble. The realistic shapes of his characters, the majority of whom are classical, display attitudes discretely anachronistic creating a tension that surprises the viewer.
His Renaissance women are frozen in time and sculpted while they blow bubblegum, show off their orthodontics or caress a placid rat in their lap. Likewise, his works in resin show the same formal perfection. The artist’s use of more modern materials and his use of color reaffirms the contemporary nature of his works.
Gerard Mas draws the public intimately close to his sculptures, constructed of materials often considered very formal. Once drawn in, the viewer finds themselves complicit in the entailing mischief.
Mas studied at “Escola d'Arts Aplicades i Oficis Artístics Llotja“ in Barcelona. He specialized in sculpture and stone carving (1998-2001). He graduated as Conservator and Restorer of Sculpture in “Escola Superior de Conservació i Restauració de Béns Culturals de Catalunya” Barcelona (1994-1998). Gerard Mas has had numerous exhibitions in the last years and 3 Punts has exhibited his works in many international art fairs. His works are included in several national and international art collections.
Born in 1976, Gerard Mas lives and works in Barcelona.
